C compiler used

When I run upcc -version, I see the following:

  C compiler           | /local/gonzalez/gcc-3.4.3/bin/gcc-3.4.3
                       |   gcc-3.4.3: `-V' option must have argument
----------------------+--------------------------------------------
  linker               | /local/gonzalez/gcc-3.4.3/bin/gcc-3.4.3
                       |   gcc-3.4.3: `-V' option must have argument

Did you, perhaps, mean to call gcc -v instead of gcc -V ?
